In depth

TVs, mirrors and blinds — hung straight and secure

Hanging anything properly comes down to two things: finding what's behind the plaster and getting the position right the first time. We bring a stud and cable detector, a laser level and fixings for solid brick, dot-and-dab, plasterboard and stud walls, so a heavy mirror or a large TV goes up square, secure and where you actually want it — with no row of abandoned holes left behind.

The list we're most often asked to work through is short and familiar: a television on a chimney breast with the cables hidden, a bathroom mirror, a gallery wall of pictures, floating shelves, a curtain pole that has to go into nothing but plasterboard, and blinds fitted at exactly the right height for the window and the room.

We cover Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, working in homes, rentals and offices. Multiple items are the best value — book a morning and we'll fit the television, the shelves, the mirrors and the blinds in one visit, in the order that causes least disruption.

Why customers choose Gleamo for this

  • Stud and cable detection before drilling, so pipes and wiring aren't a lottery.
  • Correct fixings for brick, plasterboard, dot-and-dab and studwork walls.
  • Heavy items — large TVs, mirrors and shelves — secured with fixings rated well above the load.
  • Positions set out with a level so items sit true, including multi-item gallery layouts.
  • Cables and unsightly flex tidied and concealed where it's practical to do so.
  • Multiple items fitted in one visit, which is the most cost-effective way to book us.

What affects the price

  • Number of items — one TV mount is a quick job; a full room of pictures and shelving takes longer.
  • Weight and size — large mirrors and TVs need heavier-duty fixings and sometimes two people.
  • Wall type — solid brick is straightforward; plasterboard and lath walls need specialised fixings.
  • Bracket or fixture supply — bringing your own is fine, or we can quote to supply the mount.
  • Cable concealment — surface trunking or in-wall runs to hide cables from the television.
  • Height and access — high ceiling mounts and tall windows need ladders and extra care.

Optional extras

  • Multi-screen mount
  • Heavy mirror mounting
  • Curtain pole fitting
  • Shelving systems
